Located on the 122nd floor of the world’s tallest tower, At.mosphere in the Burj Khalifa has had a makeover and is ready once again to welcome diners to experience exclusive luxury on top of the world.
The fundamental consideration of this project was to ensure that no matter the time of day, the lighting scheme must provide suitable levels of illumination without compromising the 360-degree view of the iconic Dubai cityscape and all it has to offer.
To emphasise the art deco inspired interiors of the restaurant, and to celebrate its fantastic vantage point, we exclusively employed reeded glass ceiling lamps that emit a subtle expression of light. They provide functional yet atmospheric lighting that minimises glare and reduces reflections in the glazing.
To instil the sentiment of fine dining amongst the clouds, the lighting throughout The Lounge and The Conservatory is predominantly decorative, with the grandeur of the fixtures generating an ambiance that soars to new heights. Feature chandeliers, heavy pendants, and indirect cove lighting create layers of light affording a pre-eminent glow.
The control system in each of these spaces is on a time clock – lighting automatically adjusts throughout the day to achieve a harmonious relationship between the level of daylight that seeps through the large windows and the artificial light set within. The table settings have three pre-set scenes that coincide with external levels of illumination ensuring a comfortable level of light.
The reception area and grand staircase is resplendent as natural light pours through the floor to ceiling windows and reflects off the brass finishings. Carefully balanced downlights and feature pendants recessed within a decorative cove produce an indirect light that offsets the abundance of daylight and provides illumination on those cloudier days high up in the ‘At.mosphere’.
