Boundless views across the Arabian Gulf and curated cocktails by expert mixologists make Bibé the ideal spot for a few sundowners.
The design direction for the bar and lounge (part of JA Lake View Hotel) was to create a cool, crisp lighting scheme – a stark and intended contrast to the hotel’s facade that’s “painted” in a warm tone of light. Taking inspiration from the crisp white lighting effects in sci-fi movie Tron, we used lines of light across the floor, walls, columns and ceiling to create a distinctive and connecting design feature.
The linear floor lights run all the way to the edge of the bar and lounge where they meet the integrated lighting in the glass balustrade. This “meeting” creates a floating edge detail that gives approaching visitors the impression that the bar is a glowing ice sculpture on top of the hotel.
Staying with the glowing-from-within theme, sleek lines of cool white light continue across the bar’s mashrabiya-detailed ceiling. These work alongside hidden lights, carefully placed in the ceiling, to give the structure a mystical floating effect and the bar more volume by bouncing light across the space. For the bar itself, integrated joinery lighting creates the same floating effect and gives the impression it’s been carved from a block of ice… tying the whole theme together perfectly.
The lighting solution for Bibé is part of a wider scheme we designed for JA Lake View Hotel – see it here.
