When one of London’s most iconic office buildings underwent a major refurbishment, its new double-height reception area needed an interior design and lighting design concept to provide an exceptional first impression.
We worked closely with the interior designers to create a sophisticated, clean aesthetic with the feel of a high-end hotel. While the depth of the space is certainly impressive, it has its drawbacks – namely that sunlight entering the glazed facade at the front doesn’t reach the back area. Much of our work went into artificially illuminating the rear to balance out the lighting levels and avoid a distracting contrast.
Our favourite aspect of the project was designing the pinstripe-effect lift core: thin vertical lines of light on glass, which make an interesting feature in a normally neglected part of the building. We also enjoyed making the skylights more of a feature by illuminating them with integrated LED lights. Even when it’s dark outside, it’s fun to look up.
