ESPA are world leaders in luxury hospitality, so we relished the opportunity to design a lighting scheme for the first ESPA Life Spa in the Middle East that sits within Waldorf Astoria Lusail hotel.
We followed a playful approach when it came to our lighting response, with an aim to magnify the spa’s juxtaposition of light, materials and scent, and to deliver the ultimate wellness experience.
An illuminated archway immediately greets guests and instantly helps to define the luxurious setting, generating an emphasis on the incredible level of detail and finesse that can be found throughout the spa.
Within the Hamman Spas and treatment rooms, soft indirect illumination and accent details evoke an intimate and restorative atmosphere. Discreet recessed linear light gently washes the curvature of the walls, creating expressions of light that enhance the materiality of the space. Minimal spotlights deliver focused illumination whilst comfortable coloured light infuses a relaxing hue into the room, encapsulating that sense of wellness that ESPA is famous for.
In the men’s pool, a sparkling fibre optic ceiling brings an unexpected touch of drama by creating the illusion that guests are swimming beneath the night sky. In the women’s pool, coffer lighting gently illuminates the body of water and halos of diffuse light highlight a sequence of marble feature walls.
