The Nulty team has grown up with John Lewis (and relied on them for everything from furniture to Christmas presents), so we were delighted to be involved in their new store design in York – especially when we learnt of their ambitious plan to make it a world-class space that’s high on impact but low on energy.
The 92,000 sq ft area needed something large, exciting and imposing to bring it to life, so – with input and ideas from both John Lewis and their interior design team – we created an architectural lighting design installation which hangs over the imposing staircase. It consists of multiple small fluorescent lamps suspended from the ceiling to resemble a “breaking wave” shape, and it’s visible from almost all angles of the store.
The installation uses “ultralife” fluorescent battens, which are long-lasting and low energy – meaning lower bills and less maintenance.
