Located next to Al Wasl Plaza and its spectacular dome, Rove Expo 2020 hotel is at the epicentre of all things Expo. Working in partnership with the architect and contractor, we created a contemporary lighting solution for the only on-site hotel, which has an industrial, fresh and trendy vibe.
A sustainable ethos runs throughout the hotel’s LEED Gold design concept, including the LED lighting scheme that’s controlled by a DALI system, which allows different areas to be adapted to suit the time of day.
On the ground floor, where lobby, lounge and co-working areas merge with a bar and all-day dining cafe, layers of illumination add character and creativity to each individual zone, while creating a sense of continuity throughout the open-plan hub.
Oversized coloured and contemporary pendants combine with suspended track lights to strike the right balance between decorative and functional lighting. Lines of light across the ceiling draw the eye and integrated illumination within joinery and furniture accentuates the warmth and detail of materials and finishes.
For example, large orange pendants hang above reception desks that are illuminated around the base to create a floating effect. The pendants continue within the bar area where the wooden counter is illuminated to pick out the detail of the timber and define the space as the place to socialise. In the co-working areas and meeting rooms, strategically placed diffused lines of light create a comfortable and inviting environment, while large blue pendants provide pockets of atmospheric light for focused work and casual catch ups.
