Rustan’s Beauty Hall

A Stunnning Makeover

Luxury retail destination, Rustan’s Manila has been reimagined. With a stylish redesign from interior and architectural design studio Cardy Papa, the store’s ‘Beauty Courtyard’ and ‘Fragrance Library’ have had a stunning makeover.

Cardy Papa had a focus of ‘texture, light, and improved sight lines’ and so the lighting scheme needed to define zones and encourage browse time within the vast beauty space.

The signature Rustan’s pattern, originating in 1971, is celebrated by track and spot lighting in the bright central foyer. The iconic motif frames the change in ceiling height and is accentuated by layers of light, elevating the architectural variation within the atrium.

Transitioning from the foyer, statement arches of light radiate within the ‘Beauty Courtyard,’ signifying zones that differentiate counters, bathing consumers in a glow that reinforces the luxury Rustan’s is known for.

‘Bridgeway’ hosts the fragrance library, a series of sophisticated scent bars integrated with subtle and considered linear light, the indirect illumination generates a sense of flow, pulling consumers through to the heart of the perfumed area.

Flattering light levels were key in the make-up hall in order to give patrons a flawless experience with the best possible facial illumination. A 2:1 ratio of two types of LED modules and two different but complementary colour temperatures – known as the ‘Beauty Series module’ – balances light levels to allow customers to engage with the merchandise and colour-match their make-up.

Shoppers are greeted by a contrasting black frame supplemented by a series of accent downlights to highlight the new interactive beauty ‘test and play’ area. A recessed line of black can spotlights in the ceiling supplement the frame, acting as perimeter lighting that confidently interrupts the regular rhythm of the department store.
