Kiran’s awareness of light developed at an early age. Growing up in Bengaluru, he experienced family stories told by candlelight during power cuts, and trips to temples along the south Canara coast, where the glow from a simple oil lamp could be transformative. These determining moments taught him that light is elemental, with the capacity to shape our experiences and inform our surroundings.
After gaining an architecture degree from Bengaluru University and studying lighting design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, Kiran practiced as a lighting designer in Europe and the Middle East, before launching his own consultancy in Dubai. Thankfully, the lure of his hometown was hard to resist, so he found his way back to India, and into the Nulty fold.
Kiran’s thirst for knowledge means he’s sometimes found lecturing on Architecture, Design, and Lighting at design schools in the city. And, when he has time off from enlightening students, he keeps himself busy juggling a diverse list of hobbies that includes globetrotting, photography, snooker, soft rock, and getting his hands dirty with clay and wood sculpture.
