Martin is an award-winning lighting designer, lecturer, speaker and author, with over 40 years of industry experience.
He gained his experience as a lighting designer working for Philips on projects of all scopes and sizes, then established his own Singapore-based lighting design practice in 1991. Under his watchful eye, the KLAASEN brand evolved to become a multi-disciplinary consultancy, renowned throughout the Asia-Pacific region for its work on prestigious projects such as the iconic PETRONUS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur – the world’s tallest towers at the time.
When he’s not inspiring his own team of lighting designers, Martin is found sharing his years of accumulated knowledge with the wider industry. His engagement within the lighting design community extends to his educational platforms Light Talk and the Virtual Lighting Design Community – a co-founded, knowledge-sharing platform that brings together leading experts in an interactive virtual community.
